Arlekin Players Theatre is proud to welcome on its stage the talented Veniamin Smekhov in a new production Flejta-Pozvonochnik by Taganka Theater.

Backbone Flute is a musical-poetic performance (music by Vyacheslav Ganelin). It is a sad nod – after 48 years – to the Yuri Lyubimov’s legendary production “Listen!”

Just as it was in the script of of the last production, Mayakovsky’s Backbone Flute contains an appeal to Pushkin, as well as to M. Lermontov, Nekrasov, S.Yesenin.

Pre-screening took place on in Sala Umberto, Rome (Italy) on November 16, 2015.

Vladimir Mayakovsky is one of the most important poets in Veniamin Smekhov’s life. Smekhov’s friendship with Lilya Brik embodied in a joyful duty to the memory of the poet.

Smekhov wrote and directed many productions based on Mayakovsky: Moscow is on fire (1973, CT, script writer, director), Listen! (1967, Theatre on Taganka, script together with Y.Lyubimov), Playing Mayakovsky (1984, CDT, script writer), Lilya, love me (1996, “Moscow-Berlin project” exhibition”, writer, director and performer), Two sisters (2000, Théâtre du Gymnase, Marseille, France , writer, director), Nekrasov, Mayakovsky from I came to you with poems (2014 Kultura channel, writer and performer).
