Arlekin presents
One orphaned teenager, one actor, one hour. Darya Denisova's Natasha's Dream travels from Needham to solo festivals in New York, Moscow and Yerevan, and later becomes State vs. Natasha Banina.
Yaroslava Pulinovich's monologue gives the stage to a sixteen-year-old from a provincial orphanage who falls in love for the first time and cannot see where it is taking her. Darya Denisova performs. Igor Golyak directs.
It opens in December 2015 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, then moves into the company's new Needham studio in March 2016. A new festival version in September 2016 goes straight to the United Solo Festival on Theatre Row in New York, the Moscow Solo Festival and HighFest in Yerevan, all within two weeks. HowlRound writes about it in March 2017. The studio brings it back three times in 2018.
When the pandemic closes theaters in 2020, this is the piece Arlekin rebuilds as State vs. Natasha Banina, the interactive Zoom trial that puts the audience in the jury box.
