Arlekin's first production: a bilingual Chekhov farce that opens on the Massachusetts festival circuit in 2010 and represents the United States in Monaco three years later.
A widow in mourning. A creditor at the door. Chekhov's one-act farce The Bear is a fight that turns into a courtship, and Igor Golyak's adaptation plays it in two languages.
This is where Arlekin begins. In June 2010 a company of immigrants and outsiders takes a Russian classic to the EMACT Massachusetts State Theatre Festival and wins Best Production, with Golyak, Alana Kumalagova and Gene Ravvin on stage. The show keeps traveling: the Mikhail Chekhov International Festival in Connecticut, the Golden Lion Festival in Lviv, the New England Regional Festival in Concord and the AACT National Festival in Rochester.
In August 2013 The Bear represents the United States at the Mondial du Théâtre in Monaco, the world festival hosted by Prince Albert II, performing in two languages.
