Arlekin and Groundswell Theatricals present
Chekhov's family loses the house. Mikhail Baryshnikov and Jessica Hecht walk through it one last time, with a robot at their side. The Orchard is Arlekin's Off-Broadway debut, live and virtual at once.
The Orchard is Igor Golyak's adaptation of The Cherry Orchard, in Carol Rocamora's translation, with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Jessica Hecht, Nael Nacer, Elise Kibler, Juliet Brett, John McGinty, Darya Denisova and Mark Nelson. A robot arm shares the stage. A virtual companion, The Orchard Experience, lets audiences anywhere enter the house during the run.
It opens at Baryshnikov Arts Center's Jerome Robbins Theater in June 2022, produced with Groundswell Theatricals and the Cherry Orchard Festival: 31 performances, reviews in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and Vulture, and a CBS Sunday Morning feature. In November 2022 ArtsEmerson brings it to the Emerson Paramount Center in Boston.
It earns a 2023 Lucille Lortel nomination for Outstanding Projections (Alex Basco Koch) and the 2023 Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Design, Visiting Production.
